MEET THE MAKER

Hello, I’m Esther Dyer, the owner, designer and maker behind EsD Jewellery. I make handmade Sterling Silver Jewellery for every day and occasion wear. As well as running my business: I'm a mother of two energetic boys; a homemaker; and a wife to a golf mad hero.

I trained in Silversmithing and Applied Crafts at Camberwell College of Art (London Institute) 1994-97, and continued studying fine Jewellery at London Guildhall 1997-99. After that I went on to set-up BessB making Silver Jewellery and selling through stores. Then, for a time, I gave up making jewellery to work in the City; but I returned to my happy place making beautiful things for people to wear.

Here's a picture of me with our family cat, Frank. He likes to sit in my workshop when I work - usually sleeping on the rafters above my head or batting tools off my workbench.

I design and make all of my work by hand in my workshop in St Albans, Hertfordshire; using traditional tools and methods. It's really important to me that everything I sell is handmade by me. I like making things, and the reverse engineering process that you go through to design a pieces from finish to start.

I specialise in chemical etching to create depth and texture in Silver. It's a messy and time consuming process, but it gives me great pleasure to turn a flat 2D piece of silver into a 3D light reflective texture. I look to nature for graphical inspiration; as well as modern geometric patterns and motifs. My etched designs are  completely unique to EsD Jewellery, and I take great pride in designing and making them.

My online ready to wear collection features earrings and pendants; and I make rings, bangles and cufflinks to order. Nearly all of my work is commissioned though, so please contact me if you would like to discuss a specific piece. I'd be happy to help create the design you're looking for.
